ET Water Receives Red Herring 100 North America Award
In July we were very honored to learn that ET Water was named to the Red Herring Top 100 North America roster. This prestigious list recognizes the 100 most promising privately held technology companies across all of North America and celebrates these companies’ innovations and technologies across their respective industries. In years past, companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Skype, Salesforce.com, YouTube, and eBay have made this list, so we are truly in good company.
“We’re deeply honored to be named to this prestigious roster,” said Pat McIntyre, CEO of ET Water Systems. “As a sustainable technology company dedicated to water conservation by utilizing the web, wireless technology and smart irrigation controllers, it’s important to be recognized by technology thought leaders like the editors at Red Herring. ET Water has consistently innovated and will continue to do so as we mainstream our technology and ultimately improve the environment.”

10 Tips To Reduce Outdoor Water Use
Lawn and landscape irrigation (commercial and residential) wastes up to 1.5 billion gallons of water each day and accounts for 40% to 60% of urban water use. ET Water Systems, Inc. offers outdoor water conservation tips for facility management professionals that can reduce irrigation water use by 20% to 50% while still maintaining attractive landscapes.
Based in Novato, CA, ET Water Systems makes irrigation control systems that combine horticulture science and proprietary Web-based technology to automate the scheduling of sprinkler and drip irrigation. Water is applied to landscapes based on current weather conditions and specific landscape factors, including plant type, soil type, slope, and sun/shade conditions.

Tapping the computing cloud for smarter water
If irrigation systems were half as smart as scientific calculators, they could cut water usage by 20 percent to 50 percent, says ET Water Systems.
The company earlier this year introduced its SmartBox, a replacement for commercial-scale irrigation controllers that determines the watering needs for landscaping based on a mash-up of site-specific data and local weather. A new version of the device, set for release this summer, will be able to get firmware upgrades over the cell network it uses.

Smart Home Devices You Can Set Up Without Calling in the Pros
Home automation has been around as long as world’s fairs, but the latest developments — making homes more energy efficient, controlling security on the Internet and running everything off a smart phone — have resulted in more powerful systems that are easier to install and cost less.
Green Automation
Automatic lawn sprinklers are convenient, but they can also be wasteful and uneconomical if they run when a storm passes through. ETwater's SmartBox (starting at $1,550) is a lawn-sprinkler control box that uses real-time weather reports to automatically adjust itself. Every day, a new irrigation schedule is tailored to the weather at your location. A computer application lets you create zones and set up different watering schedules based on plant and soil type, slopes, sun and shade factors, and even sprinkler type.

Irrigating With Intelligence
Entities with both single and multiple locations drastically cut outside water use with advanced technologies.
To say that Memphis, TN-based Mid-America Apartment Communities is both a landscaping and sustainability-focused company would be an understatement. The owner of more than 42,000 apartment homes in 11 southern states has had more than 60% of its portfolio recognized, with 36 landscape awards by more than 40 independent associations during the past several years, and maintains a land group consisting of regional landscape directors who manage property landscaping and its financial effects on property operations while subcontracting maintenance locally. Starting in 2005, Mid-America began incorporating smart irrigation technologies into its landscape maintenance at several properties.

Tips: Adjusting your Watering Schedule
Mid-summer is a great time to walk your site and notice areas that are stressed from underwatering, as well as spot areas where there is an opportunity to reduce irrigation -- and trim summer water bills. Here’s a quick refresher on two ways you can use ETwater Manager to customize irrigation for your site.
Watering Amount
If your plants aren't receiving the right amount of water, you may increase or decrease the current watering amount for any station. Your water budget is initially set at 100%, which means that we are applying the optimal amount of water for the type of plants you specified. Changing percent of water budget will adjust the amount of water applied. You may reduce the water amount by as much as 50%, or increase it by up to 200%.

Clear Lake City Clearly Sees Payback from ET Water Smart Controllers
"We are responsible for the landscaping along a 4 mile stretch of Clear Lake City Boulevard, in Houston, TX. All conventional controllers were replaced with ETwater controllers. We expect to spend less than $20,000 for irrigation this year, compared to the $43,000 we spent before ETwater. With an installed cost under $20,000 for 13 controllers, we recovered our investment within the first year of operation."
